Fear and Loathing...

Hunter S. Thompson comitted suicide yesterday. The 67 year old Doctor of Journalism, who wrote about sports, politics and the death of the American Dream in a way that no other could, was one of the most important and unique voices in 20th century literature.

His style of "Gonzo" journalism involved more than just observation and reporting. He injected himself into each and every story that he wrote, often becoming the most important character. Whether he was reporting on Muhammad Ali's latest fight, The Kentucky Derby or The Hells Angels, Thompson was always at the center of things. Drunk, stoned or out of his mind on LSD, Thompson often made a monster of himself for the greater good of the story and his reader's loved him for it.

Hunter S. Thompson was a rebel, a true original and without him the world is gonna be a lot less exciting.
