Exploring the Rules of Hell - Wishing Well

The second side of Heaven and Hell kicks off with the driving "Wishing Well". Like "Lady Evil" from side one the band is in hard rock territory here.

Butler and more notably Ward are both more active than they were on the earlier tracks. Iommi is quite busy too, adding several quick lead lines throughout.

Things get interesting during the solo when the first section of Iommi's lead are backwards tracked. It's a cool sound that The Beatles, Hendrix and many others have used. I never thought I'd hear it on a Black Sabbath song but it works.

Not surprisingly Dio delivers another powerful, expressive vocal. There are several phrases that I really like, including "Time is a never ending journey, love is a never ending smile."

Tomorrow I cover "Die Young"!
