The final song on Mob Rules is a fitting final track for the last studio recordings from the Dio fronted Black Sabbath for 10+ years.
The song is slow and moody and never deviates from that course. Every member contributes great things. Appice delivers a series of interesting drum fills, Butler's bass lines are deep and melodic, and Iommi delivers some very expressive guitar playing. There are quite a few lead breaks and he goes on quite a journey, pulling some unique sounds out of his guitar.
As always Dio's vocals are emotional and lock in with the feel of the song. A handful of singers would take Dio's place after his departure from Black Sabbath, each with their own unique talents, but Dio really was the ideal singer for any version of the band that didn't include Ozzy Osbourne.
Tomorrow I start to explore Live Evil! In addition to performing songs from the two Dio albums the band also presents several of their most popular Ozzy era songs. I'm looking forward to hearing Dio's take on these iconic songs.
