Friday the 13th Part 2 was released a year to the month after the original film.
After wrapping up some loose ends the sequel jumps ahead 5 years and follows a group of young people who are getting ready to open up a camp on Crystal Lake. Much like in the first film they are warned to stay away. They don't listen and once again people start to turn up dead.
Although the characters were brand new in this sequel the template was very much the same. The killer is rarely seen and we are kept in the dark as to who is comitting the murders. The group of young people is actually pretty likeable (including a guy in a wheelchair with paralyzed legs) which makes some of the killings seem even more senseless then they already are.
Friday the 13th Part 2 is very much a (less satisfying) redundant take on the first movie and if we remove the great killer reveal the ending doesn't make very much sense.
Thankfully the series would go on and right itself with Part 3 the following year.
Rating: 7.5 out of 10 machetes.
