"Lonely is the Word" brings us to the final track on Heaven and Hell, and it is a great way to end things. An Iommi riff that sounds like it would fit right in on Never Say Die gets things started. It's nice and edgy and takes on a new life when Butler and Ward come in with a loose, groovy backing.
Dio is on limited display here. In a strong, expressive performance he sings of traveling to "Nowhere". The bulk of the track is driven by extended Iommi guitar breaks, starting with a dual lead break that features jazzy octave based lines out of one speaker and a more traditional melodic line out of the other.
For several sections the only backing Iommi has is Ward and Butler. No rhythm guitar or dueling leads. It's the band at its rawest form and it's excellent. Keyboards enter towards the end and we fade out as the band continues on a journey to "Nowhere".
I really enjoyed listening to Heaven and Hell and can see myself returning to it often.

I'm glad you enjoyed Heaven and Hell. I've liked this album for years. I'm interested to see what you'll think of Mob Rules. There are some really good tracks on that one too.
